Worth the Wait
by rebekah lamorena
Waiting— not my favourite word.
And I’m sure I’m not alone. Our world is all about instant gratification. From instant oatmeal, to instant messaging, instant relationships and Instagram... it’s clear to see that waiting is somewhat counter-cultural in this crazy society of ours.
I am learning that this waiting game comes down to one thing: trust. A lot of it. See, I don’t actually have a solid explanation for why God pauses and delays some things. I don’t know why we have to go through days, months and years of waiting sometimes....But I think that’s the point. God uses seasons of waiting to show us that we don’t need to know everything – we just need to know Him more.
There's a purpose for every part of the process. When we run into boredom, failure, pressure and grief, our natural response is always to escape... but this isn't always what God wants for us. He wants to do more than just deliver us - he wants to develop us so that we can do and see all that He has for us. Sometimes the very things we wish and pray away, the challenges we are facing and the prickly thorns causing so much pain, are actually the holy places that allow us to become a pillar of strength and encouragement to those around us.
"There's a purpose for every part of the process."
I haven't always been the best at waiting but God continues to show me that the best things in life are truly worth waiting for. I’ve run ahead of God so many times and to be very honest with you, my own pursuits have always fallen short of God’s best. Sometimes it takes a season of waiting for us to realize that while we're stuck in the details of our everyday lives, God sees all. He sees the big picture.
No, that job, breakthrough or opportunity might not be here yet, but just keep waiting patiently and passionately. Don't trade the right thing for something right now. It's not worth it. Patiently wait and believe that God will do His part, in His time. God knows you – everything about you. He hears every prayer and He knows every doubt, fear and dream you have. Trust that He will give you the desires of your heart if and when it’s best for you!
"Don't trade the right thing for
something right now."
I'm learning that waiting on God is actually less about my actions, and more about the state of my heart. Where does my hope lie? In something or someone? Or in God? Through my own struggles and challenges, He has taught me that it’s in Him that we find out who we are and what we’re really living for. Our hope is in Him alone - not in another person, a paycheck, a passion or a purpose. God is waiting for us to passionately wait on Him and Him only.
God has wrecked my plans so many times but man.... I’m so thankful. I am astounded by the number of times He has suddenly turned up in my life and turned everything around for the better.
Sometimes situations will change, opportunities will go and some people will exit without an explanation. Sometimes God will ask you to say no to something now so that you can yes to something better. And sometimes it will be really hard to do that. But remember this: there is always, always, always a blessing on the other side of obedience. When you fix your gaze on who you’re waiting on, and not what you’re waiting for, you will never be disappointed. He is WTW.
"God proves to be good to the man who passionately waits, to the woman who diligently seeks."
"...but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing."
"For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless." (Psalm 84:11)
"God, the one and only--I’ll wait as long as he says. Everything I need comes from him, so why not? He’s solid rock under my feet, breathing room for my soul, An impregnable castle: I’m set for life."
